Patricia Velásquez
Creativity extends beyond the
photographic, canvas as well as film and other media. It also catalyzes charity
or philanthropy as well as activism. Patricia Velasquez is an award-winning
model and actress who has made history. She is also a staunch donor. Author,
activist, author and a loving mom. She relies on her intuition and creates her
own path and is making huge strides. She states, "I see my career as a
long ladder." "I took every step. It was incredible to accomplish
that, as there has been longevity. I was never able to stop moving, just sat
with my head down. This metaphor is a close resemblance to the beginning of a
new phase. In the following years, she moved to Venezuela. She was born in
Venezuela and grew up in France and Mexico. In South America her parents worked
in education. They relocated their family into an apartment without water and
no elevators. Patricia carried 15 staircases up using heavy buckets to provide
water to the apartment. Between her dance and engineering training, she attempted
to help her family in any way she could. She was scouted to model in Milan and
her rise to the heights of the fashion ladder was contingent on a promise to
her family and friends. She recalled, "When they asked me about going to
Italy I replied"If you're able to send thirty bucks per month back home to
Venezuela the cost will be worth itas it will cover the entire building's water
bills'." Patricia's achievements were a major change in fashion since she
was able to draw attention to South America for first time. Her "first
modeling gig Karl Lagerfeld photographed" was an incredible breakthrough.
Her next step was to be featured in shows and front editorial spreads and was
featured in advertisements for Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana and Fendi. Her
appearances in Oprah's Supermodel of the World contest as well as Ford Models’
"Supermodel of the World" contest had a ripple effect across the
globe. She also graced the covers of Vogue, Bazaar, Marie Claire and many other
publications.
